Deer Poacher Sentenced
A 20 year old Rushford man who pleaded guilty last month to theft by poaching a trophy deer from a Houston County deer farm has been sentenced to pay over $54,000 in restitution. Ryan Jackson was also sentenced in Houston County District Court last week to 120 days in jail and 10 years probation.
Jackson pleaded guilty to entering the game farm without permission and shooting the 21 point buck. Three other charges were dropped in a plea arrangement. Authorities said the shooting occurred last December 8th.
They said a short time later, a DNR conservation officer received a text message saying a picture of the buck was linked to Jackson's Facebook account. Jackson was ordered to pay $54,176 in restitution. The DNR said the buck was valued at between $15,000 and 20,000.
