Dakota Gathering
The 9th Annual Great Dakota Gathering is coming up in Winona September 14th through the 16th, and there is a need for volunteers to help out.
The event will be held in Unity Park located at the east end of Lake Winona and this year it will commemorate the Dakota Conflict of 1862 which took place150 years ago. Volunteers are needed for a number of events including Youth Education Day, Information and T-Shirt Sales, Button Sales for Meals, and Clean-up.
The weekend will be filled with activities including an education day in the Winona Schools, a grand entry with several veteran honor guards, and a hockey game, all on Friday, September 14th
The weekend will feature sunrise ceremonies, four "feasts" , a learning tent for education about Dakota life and culture, dancing, and craft vendors, along with a Dakota Community Spiritual Service on Sunday the 16th..
