The La Crosse Fitness Festival will scale back its activities and is canceling the spring marathon.
         
Because the premiere event will now be the half marathon, organizers are changing the event name to Festival Foods Grandad Half Marathon. It and other races will take place May 3rd through the 5th.

The La Crosse Tribune reports the trimmed-down event is continuing on without the marathon because the landscape of La Crosse proved too difficult and the time constraints too difficult.

Without the marathon, they need fewer volunteers, fewer hours from the police and street departments, and traffic isn’t affected nearly so much.

By starting on the bluff and ending at the Mississippi River, the city is able to showcase the main two geographical features that draw people there.
