WAPS--Lunch Menu

Students in the Winona Area Public School system are eating differently this fall.  The schools have been following the changes made at the national level that require students to have more healthy meals.

Spokesperson Lynn Halvorson said the local district has been ahead of the game having made some gradual menu changes over the past ten years.  Halvorson also says the calorie levels are the same now but they have been distributed to different more healthy food groups.

She says a "garden spot" is being made available containing  all-you-can-eat healthy items in the K-12 lunchrooms.  Halvorson says other options are also being made available to kids who may not like what's on the main menu.
Halvorson said the recent guidelines represent the first change in menu standards in the last seven years.
