Two towboats locked through Lock and Dam Number Six at Trempealeau Monday
The City of Cassville was the first to go through the dam just after 5:00 p.m. Monday pushing five barges
The Bruce L. Hahn locked through at 10:00 p.m. Monday pushing 13 barges upriver.
It marked the opening of the commercial shipping season on the Mississippi River at Winona.
Both tows dropped their barges off at the Winona commercial harbor and then turned around and went back south.
Boats can now access the Winona harbor after the ice was broken up on Monday.
The ice remained at 25 to 26 inches thick on Lake Pepin as of last week. The U-S Army Corps of Engineers will take another measurement Wednesday.
