The status of two Winona County officials placed on administrative leave with pay last week remains the same after the Winona County Board of Commissioners held a closed meeting Tuesday.
The board decided to hire a Twin Cities firm to conduct an independent outside investigation into a solar panel project. The motion from Commissioner Steve Jacob was approved 5-to-0.
County Administrator Duane Hebert and County Sustainability Coordinator Anne Morse both attended the closed session.
Morse said she is in contact with her union in connection with the situation. Hebert was not available for comment but issued a statement last week that said the board's action placing him on leave was illegal.
The county is facing a possible lawsuit from a company claiming the county gave proprietary information about a solar panel proposal to a competitor.
The county will hire the Twin Cities law firm of Lockridge, Grindal, and Nauen to conduct the independent investigation.
