Delegates to a First District Republican convention in Albert Lea Saturday selected businessman Aaron Miller to challenge Democratic U.S. Representative Tim Walz.
Miller defeated Rochester state Representative Mike Benson and Blue Earth businessman Jim Hagedorn. Benson dropped out after the second ballot, and on the third ballot between Miller and Hagedorn, Miller got 56 percent of the vote.
Convention rules say the nominee needs 60 percent, but Hagedorn agreed to step aside. Benson and Hagedorn say they won't run in the official primary.
Miller lives in Byron and is an account manager with Revo Biologic. He told delegates on Saturday that his work in health care means he can help Republicans provide alternatives to the federal health care act.
