No criminal charges will be filed in connection with the accident on January 5th at the foot of Huff Street that claimed four lives.
Winona County Attorney Karin Sonneman announced that a joint investigation with the sheriff's department found no criminal wrongdoing.
Sonneman said a State Patrol reconstruction of the crash showed the driver of the vehicle, Christine Hauser, was intoxicated at the time and was speeding. Hauser's blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit.
Sheriff Dave Brand said evidence, including a text message from one of the occupants, showed the crash happened sometime after 2:30 a.m. on January 5th, as the four occupants were returning from Wisconsin. They had also been seen in a Winona bar earlier. Three males also died in the crash.
Sonneman said the lack of criminal charges does not prevent the filing of any civil suit. However, she and Brand were not aware of any current civil suits.
