Refuge Turns 90
The Upper Mississippi National Wildlife and Fish Refuge is inviting the public to help celebrate the Refuge's 90th anniversary coming up on Friday, July 18th.
The Friends of Refuge Headwaters will be holding a special barbecue at the McNally Boat Landing on Prairie Island starting at 5:30 p.m. for those who register for the event.
Refuge Ranger Ed Lagace will lead the participants on an evening paddle through some of the backwaters from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Pre-registration is required by 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 16th by calling or emailing

The refuge will provide canoes, paddles, and life jackets for the public to use or you can bring your own equipment.
The Upper Mississippi National Wildlife and Fish Refuge was established by Congress on June 7th, 1922. It extends for 261 miles from Wabasha to Rock Island Illinois. It has 240,000 acres winding through four states...and has over 3.5 million visitors each year.....
