A nonprofit based in Rochester was the biggest winner of them all on All-Star Home Run Derby night at Target Field in Minneapolis Monday night.
Ben Johnson, Board Chair of Channel One Regional Food Bank, says they won the fan vote between 6 other nonprofits in the state and received $500,000 from Major League Baseball and the Minnesota Twins as part of the All-Star festivities.
Johnson, who works in National Account Sales at Fastenal in Winona, says Channel One distributes food to 14 counties in Southeastern Minnesota, including Winona County, as well as La Crosse County in Wisconsin.
Channel One has a major capital campaign in the works and Johnson says the grant money will help pay for expanding their warehouse, freezer and cooler space as well as a teaching classroom.
The 6 nonprofits who did not win the fan vote all received a surprise consolation grant of $50,000.
