Man Struck by Train

Winona Police said a 23-year-old Winona man was killed when he was struck by a train.

Police Chief Paul Bostrack said authorities were notified just before 3:00 a.m. today that a southbound Canadian Pacific train had struck the man at the Fifth Street and Jackson Street crossing.

Train personnel said they spotted a man standing next to the tracks as the train approached.  The man then walked in front of the train, which could not stop in time.

Bostrack said the man's name was being withheld pending notification of relatives.
