The Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department is warning residents about a phone scam involving the Internal Revenue Service.
Authorities say they received a complaint from a county resident who received a call from a man claiming to be with the I-R-S.
The citizen was told that someone was coming to arrest them if they did not come up with a certain amount of money. The resident was also told to contact their criminal attorney because the resident was in a lot of trouble.
Through caller I-D, the resident determined the call was coming from outside Wisconsin.
The sheriff's department say it has received similar complaints about persons claiming to be with the I-R-S who are threatening arrests and liens against property.
If you should get a similar call from someone claiming to be with the I-R-S, you should contact the Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department. They have instructions on what to do.
