Shipping Season Ends

The commercial shipping season on the Upper Mississippi River has come to an end.

The U-S Army Corps of Engineers says all the locks and dams closed for the season on Saturday, December 10th.

All vessels needed to be south of Lock and Dam 10, in Guttenberg, Iowa, by then to ensure they can pass through the Rock Island District locks prior to their scheduled winter maintenance.

The shipping season is expected to resume in March when the locks re-open. The earliest opening on record has been March 4th. But the normal opening usually comes near the end of March.....
