The Winona Family YMCA moved a step closer to being able to sell its building and property when the City Council Monday approved changing its designation under the City's comprehensive plan.
The designation was changed from traditional neighborhood to downtown fringe making it easier to sell the property to developers. Construction of a new YMCA in collaboration with Winona Health near Mankato Avenue is contingent of the sale of the current "Y" property.
The Y announced last spring it had raised over 8-million dollars for construction of a new facility with Winona Health.
The City Council also approved the Windom Park Historic District requested by the city's Historic Preservation Commission which includes some 29 buildings and homes.
The designation will protect and preserve the historic character of the Windom Park area.....
