Authorities said two people escaped serious injury when their vehicle went off Highway 14-61 east of La Crescent and ended up in the river early Monday.
The vehicle was eastbound when it lost control on the icy roadway, crossed the center median curbing and across the westbound lanes. It then went down an embankment and rolled coming to rest in the river partially submerged on its roof.
The Minnesota State Patrol said both occupants were able to exit the submerged vehicle.
They were both from Waukon, Iowa and were identified as 45-year-old Jeremy Rissman, the driver, and 42-year-old Michael Hitchcock. Hitchcock was taken to Gundersen Medical Center in La Crosse to be treated for his non life-threatening injuries. Rissman was not injured.
The crash was reported at 7:15 a.m. Monday.....
