Deer Hunt-CWD

The discovery of a third deer with chronic wasting disease in southeastern Minnesota will not change the current boundaries of the disease management zone, which is designated deer permit area 603. A special hunt begins Saturday, Dec. 31st, in the permit area and concludes Sunday, Jan. 15th.

The DNR says landowners are strongly encouraged to participate in the special hunt so deer removal begins as quickly as possible. When the landowner shooting program begins Jan. 16th, landowners will be allowed to take additional deer in the permitted area.

The new discovery does expand the boundaries of the area where landowner shooting permits will be issued. It also enlarges the disease control zone established by the Board of Animal Health for farmed deer and elk.
