The National Weather Service in La Crosse says numerous cities in Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin in this area experienced above normal rainfall from June through September in 2016.
One of those cities was Minnesota City which saw 45.74 inches of rain during that time frame.
Harmony has 49.36 inches and Theilman in Wabasha County saw 48.3 inches. The Village of Trempealeau had 49.36 inches of rain in that time span.
Heavy rainfall in all three states in this area also caused several floods and in some case severe damage to private property and public roads and bridges.
In addition to being one of the wettest years on record, 2016 went down into the record books as the 4th warmest year on record for La Crosse with an average temperature of 50.9 degrees...and the 5th warmest ever for Rochester with an average of 47.4 degrees. Most locations saw their warmest Fall season on record as well....
