A large crowd was on hand in St. Charles Thursday night for a public hearing on plans to expand two hog operations...one near Elba and the other near Utica.
The hearing was conducted by the Minnesota Pullution Control Agency which has completed an environmental assessment worksheet on the proposals from Holden Farms which has operated for about the last 15 years.
Current operations house more than 47-hundred pigs on the two sites and Holden Farms is looking to add 2,000 more pigs.
Questions and concerns were voiced at the public hearing including concerns about potential water quality problems and with the possible odors.
The proposed expansions will require state and federal permits which are also open for public comment.....
