Winona County is thanking county residents for their patience with the new contractor working with the recycling pickups.
Sustainability Coordinator Anne Morse says Harter's started the pickups this month and has experienced some problems with the routes new to them and drivers new to the county, plus overflowing containers from the Christmas season.
Harter's was awarded the new five-year contract with the county earlier and started the pickups the first week of January. One vehicle slid off the road in one of the townships and a nearby farmer jumped on his dozer and pulled the truck out of the ditch.
Morse said the contractor is working very hard to provide quality service and things will no doubt get better in the coming weeks as they get to know the county better.
Morse said the county is committed to start future recycling contracts in July when the weather is better.....
