Units from three fire departments were called back to a Rollingstone area residence early today when a fire in a home re-started.
Winona County Sheriff Ron Ganrude said units from the Altura and Rollingstone Fire Departments responded to a home along County Road 27 about midnight Tuesday on a report of a fire in a wall.
The blaze was extinguished but the two departments were joined by the Lewiston Department on a call back at 7:12 a.m. Wednesday when the home became engulfed in flames. A neighbor had reported the fire had flared up.
Two residents, a 67-year-old male, and a 63-year-old female, escaped without injury. Ganrude said one of the homeowners was awakened about midnight by the smell of smoke and noticed a fire in a wall near a wood stove.
Ganrude said the home was totally destroyed. He said the Red Cross was called in to assist the homeowners.
