Sand Mine Approval

With the frack sand mining industry expected to pick up in 2017 and 2018, Cameron Rail is seeking approval of a sand mine from the City of Independence in Wisconsin.

The Trempealeau County Times reports Cameron Rail, which took over ownership of the property from Superior Sands which dropped out, said with oil prices rising and with the frack sand a valued commodity again, they want to operate the mine.

The 1,600 acres annexed by the City of Independence contains 80 million tons of the valued silica sand and is located near rail and barge shipping in Winona.

The city of Independence will now begin developing a land use plan and permit standards for sand mines in its jurisdiction.....
