Jennifer Welch and Chad Anderson are returning as co-chairs for Merchants Bank’s 2017 “10 Days of Giving,” which runs December 1-10.
The event is now in its 29th year of collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations to benefit the food shelf at Winona Volunteer Services.
Last year, the “10 Days of Giving” collected 206,050 pounds of food, bringing the 28-year total to 3,045,465 pounds of food. Two pounds of food are calculated for each dollar brought in. The percentage of monetary donations keeps increasing each year.
Through the end of 2016, 1,173 households were registered for the food shelf at Winona Volunteer Services. Last year, more than 3,324 individuals were served at the food shelf, and another 1,603 people were helped at the Emergency food shelf. Last year 480,145 pounds of food were distributed. Also 264 elementary kids received healthy weekend snacks during the 2015-2016 school year.
As in the past, Merchants will be collecting at its locations as well as at schools and participating businesses around the area.
The “10 Days of Giving” will officially kick off with a press conference at 10 a.m., December 1 at Merchants Bank in downtown Winona.
