On Saturday evening, Casey McCarraher, a 19 year old from New Vienna, Iowa, was chosen as the new Miss Winona. Held at St. Cecilia Theater, the Miss Winona competition featured five contestants from around the area.
Moments after being selected, McCarraher, shared her excitement about winning the Miss Winona title. “I am already looking forward to my duties this year, traveling, meeting new people and getting the word out about my platform, which is Get MADD with Me”, said McCarraher. McCarraher’s platform centers around drunk driving prevention.
As Miss Winona, McCarraher will receive an educational scholarship and the opportunity to compete for the Miss Minnesota title in June of 2018. Currently a student at St. Mary’s University, McCarraher is majoring in Pastoral/Youth Ministry. During her year as Miss Winona, McCarraher will travel throughout the area advocating her platform issue.
Joan Sasser, Director of the program, commented on the new Miss Winona. “Casey embodies the qualities a role model should have and we are excited about working with her this year” said Sasser.
Ahmitara Alwal, who is a WSU Freshman majoring in Nursing, was named 1st runner up.
