Winona’s Housing Task force will be completing its work in the beginning of 2018. The group was formed in February, with a mission of creating a list of tools and recommendations to aid housing development for the City Council.
Their work will be brought to an informational meeting in front of the council on December 18th, and will be voted on in early January. Any adjustments needed would be worked through at the group’s possible last meeting – January 25th. The options being sent to the council include the creation of Tax Increment Financing districts to leverage property tax money to subsidize development, the allocation of Local Government Aid, and the elimination of fees for developers beginning a construction project.
The city’s community development specialist, Nick Larson, says the process has gone according to plan, bringing together business owners, realtors, housing developers, bankers, and members of government to create solutions for affordable housing.
