Longtime Winona County Deputy Rob Averbeck has announced he will run for sheriff in 2014.

Averbeck has been in law enforcement for over 20 years, for the last ten years he has been a criminal investigator.

He says an advantage for him is having worked in every division of the sheriff's department.

Averbeck also says the time is right for a change in the leadership of the department.

Averbeck is a 1984 graduate of Cochrane-Fountain City High School and served six years with the Dane County, Wisconsin, Sheriff's Department prior to coming to the Winona County Sheriff's Department.

Current Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand, who was elected in 1998, has not indicated if he will seek election to a fifth 4-year-term.
