BK 5K Youth Fund

The BK 5K Youth Fund has provided record financial support to Winona youth programs totaling $183,573 dollars in the 2014 funding cycle.

The Fund was established with the Fastenal sponsored BK 5K Road Race as a means to support Winona area youth and to create an ongoing way to honor Bob Kierlin, founder of Fastenal and a lifelong supporter of youth programs.

A large number of grants were evaluated, and a total of twenty-two programs were funded to meet needs such as mathematics and robotic materials, technology for therapeutic skill building for mental health patients, youth baseball equipment, high school band drumline equipment and marching band uniforms.

The grants also helped fund classroom technology at numerous schools, hands-on biotechnology apparatus, youth and child care recreational equipment, a youth indoor climbing wall, specialty tricycles for disabled youth, and swim training equipment.
