Baldwin River Tour

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin made stops along the Mississippi River during her August freshwater coast tour Tuesday.

Baldwin tells Winona Radio News her tour of the river focused on how the Great Lakes, Mississippi River and other major waterways contribute to Wisconsin's economy and quality of life.
Baldwin also visited the Genoa National Fish Hatchery where she toured the hatchery's lake sturgeon and freshwater mussel recovery and restoration programs.

Baldwin says the Hatchery also cooperates with the Upper Midwest Environmental Science Center in La Crosse and other research groups to explore methods to control aquatic invasive species and fish diseases.

Senator Baldwin will also visited Lock and Dam 6 in Trempealeau to learn about the system's operation, recreational use, and the economic impact the navigational waterway has on the area.
