By Jason Melillo Oct 16, 2023 | 10:48 AM

(KWNO)-A Winona homeowner started receiving text messages on Sunday demanding money and threatening to blow up their house. The texter stated the doors of the house of were rigged with bombs that would go off if the doors were opened but if the homeowners paid 5,000 bitcoin (more than $140 million) the bombs would be deactivated. The homeowners were out of town but their teenager was at the residence.

Police inspected the house and did not find bombs or any evidence of explosives, leading them to believe the incident was a scam. Officers stayed at the house with the teenager until his parents arrived.
