The chair of the Minnesota House of Representatives Capital Investment Committee has included $6 million in funding for the Red Wing River Renaissance project in her version of state's bonding bill.
Representative Alice Hausman unveiled her bonding bill proposal Thursday, which includes a total of $1.3 billion in funding for projects throughout the state. The city of Red Wing had requested $6 million in bonding dollars for the Red Wing Renaissance project, and Hausman's proposal includes the full amount of the city's request.
There are several components to the River Renaissance project, including reconstruction of portions of Levee Road, realignment of the Riverwalk Trail to separate pedestrians and bicyclists from motor vehicle traffic and to connect downtown Red Wing to other trails.
It also includes upgrades to the Sheldon Theatre, the construction of a riverboat dock and reconstruction of a small-boat harbor.
The city hopes to match $6 million in state bonds with an additional $6 million from other local, state and federal sources to complete the project, which has wide community support.
