As the $162,000,000 Winona bridge project gets underway, the current bridge will be getting a new truck weighing system to make sure the $80,000 pound gross weight limit on the bridge is being followed.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the new motion system will be separate from the bridge project, and the existing system will be inactive for a shorter period of time.
Bids for the new system will be opened on August 22nd with the installation getting underway the first week of October.
MnDOT says the project work is separate from the bridge project because there is a need to replace the old system now.
Workers have begun removing trees on the north side of the Highway 43 bridge that will be in the way of the new bridge.
