Fountain City might apply for a $500,000 grant from Buffalo County's CapX2020 funds for a scenic overlook project.
The idea was introduced to the city council by former county board supervisor John Schlesselman who lives is Fountain City.
Buffalo County received 2.3 million dollars in environmental fees paid to Wisconsin by power companies building a new high voltage transmission line that runs through parts of the county to the La Crosse area.
Schlesselman said a scenic overlook for the public and tourists would be proper use of funding in accordance with guidelines set by the Wisconsin Public Service Commission and state law.
He said the county opened the door to a "wish-list" of spending ideas by courthouse departments and others which resulted in a combined request topping $7 million.
The county is accepting applications for funding through June 27th.
