Car In The River-Body Search

The search for the missing La Crosse man in the Mississippi River entered its eighth day Monday as crews continue their efforts to locate 29-year-old Andrew Kingsbury.
Winona County Chief Deputy Ron Ganrude said the search continued over the weekend with no results. Ganrude said between 40 and 50 volunteers from various agencies helped out Sunday as crews widened their search.
He said an underwater camera was used in the area just above where the vehicle entered the water off Huff Street. Divers were sent in as holes in the four-inch ice were drilled. The search also extended below the interstate bridge to an area when the Levee Park ends where a sonar device was employed..

Ganrude said a reduced number of volunteers were expected to be at the scene Monday as the search continues. Ganrude said the search will resume again Tuesday if needed.

Ganrude said Sunday one of the volunteers went through the ice up to his waist but was able to get out on his own.

The bodies of three others who drowned were recovered January 5th and 6th.
Meanwhile, motorists have been asked by law enforcement to avoid Riverview Drive if possible. The road will not be closed to traffic.
