City Council Could Hold Another Broadway Vote

By TJ Jan 21, 2021 | 11:36 AM

(KWNO) The Winona City Council failed to pass a motion that would move the Broadway Road Diet forward following a 3-3 vote Tuesday.

The motion failing may not mean the council is done voting on the project. City Manager Steve Sarvi when asked if the road diet could appear on another council agenda.

“We could bring it back on to the next council meeting if everyone is going to be here. Again, I’m just trying to get guidance so I’m not wasting $100,000 or proceed on with the project. That’s all we’re asking,” Sarvi told council members Tuesday.

The money Sarvi is referring to is city funds allocated towards the bidding process. Sarvi told councilmembers city staff needs further guidance on whether or not to spend those funds.

He cautioned the council that the last guidance staff received from them was a 4-3 vote approving the project last June. He said if staff moves forward before the council holds another vote that the money could be wasted if the council decides to terminate the road diet.
