Winona County is about to begin up to a two-year effort to update its comprehensive landuse plan and is seeking people to serve on one of two steering committees.
County Planning and Emergency Services Director Jason Gilman says 10 names of township officials and other government agency representatives have been referred to him so far. Earlier he announced that Monday, March 18th, was a deadline for those referrals.
A second committee will also be involved composed of citizens of the county and Gilman says he will be seeking a wide cross section of people to volunteer, including landowners. That committee will be made up of 13 to 15 people
Each person must be willing to commit 18 to 24 months to making recommendations on how the comp plan will be updated.
Eventually, the recommendations will go before the county board which will make final decisions.
Gilman will address the comp plan update at the county board's March 26th, meeting and will seek the board's approval to advertising for the citizen's committee
He hopes to begin the steering committee sessions sometime in April with a goal of completing the update by the end of 2014.
