This is week five of the legislative session in St. Paul and lawmakers are continuing their review of Governor Mark Dayton's proposed budget.
While the proposal contains a large number of new taxes and the expansion of the sales tax in the state House DFL Speaker Paul Thissen is pledging to have committees take close looks at the proposals and says not all of the governor's requests will end up in a final document.
DFL State senator Matt Schmit of Red Wing says he hopes the discussion will open the door to determine what's the right balance of taxation in the state. Schmit calls it a good starting point for looking at a balanced approach.
