Deputy Position Approved

A resolution to hire a full-time sheriff's deputy to fill an upcoming retirement vacancy was adopted on a 10 to 1 vote by the Buffalo County Board.

A resolution passed earlier by the county's law enforcement committee to hire a sheriff's sergeant to fill the job and work dual roles in management and sheriff's patrol was shelved for now.  Buffalo County Sheriff Michael Schmidtknecht said he withdrew the sergeant's proposal.

County Board Chairman Del Twidt of Waumandee told the county's human resources committee that Schmidtknecht still supported naming a sergeant to help with department management duties as well as work deputy patrol.

Twidt said Schmidtknecht and the county's law enforcement committee chairman Bryan Gibbs of Mondovi decided that "maybe now was not the appropriate time to move forward" with a sergeant proposal.
