Doctor Shortage

Physicians across Minnesota are welcoming the new Minnesota Health Insurance Exchange passed by the legislature, they are also pointing out an anticipated shortage of physicians in the near future due to retirements.

Dr. Joe Sockalosky, Director of Medical Education at Children's Hospitals and Clinics, says hospitals need to prepare for possible shortages.  Sockalosky also says the physician shortage could be in a number of areas.
Sockalosky says the best way to get new doctors to work and live in Minnesota is to train them in Minnesota. He says the legislature is considering a bill to increase funding for medical training.
