The Winona County Sheriff's Department is seeking felony controlled substance charges against 43-year-old Brian James Wehlage of Winona following Wehlage's arrest on Tuesday.
Sheriff Dave Brand said sheriff's investigators made a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Wehlage on County Road 25 south of Lewiston after they noticed him getting into a vehicle at the Lewiston Kwik Trip and they knew he had a cancelled driver's license.
Following a scuffle with one of the investigators, a bag was discovered inside the vehicle that contained drug paraphernalia along with a substance believed to be a simulated narcotic. They also retrieved from under the vehicle a second baggie containing a controlled substance.
Wehlage was taken to Winona Health after he complained of some broken ribs in the scuffle but Brand said authorities later learned the ribs had been broken prior to the incident.
The sheriff's department is seeking charges of fourth degree sale of synthetic drugs, third degree sale of methamphetamines, and obstruction with force against Wehlage who remained in jail.....
