The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is encouraging homeowners to look in their trees for signs of emerald ash borer.
MDA spokesman Allen Sommerfeld says March is a good time to check for E-A-B because the trees have no leaves.
Sommerfeld says ash trees with signs of EAB should be reported to the Department of Ag or a city or county forester. Emerald ash borers have been detected in Houston and Winona counties and state officials want to prevent a further spread.
Sommerfeld says the polar vortexes might have killed off some of the tree pests this winter.
EAB quarantines are in place in Hennepin, Ramsey, Houston and Winona counties.
