DFL State Senator Matt Schmit of Red Wing says he expects a bill to be introduced soon in the Senate on the frac sand mining issue.
                    
Schmit told Winona Radio News he is open for discussion on the controversial issue in southeastern Minnesota, including a possible statewide moratorium on frac sand mining, and the implementation of a generic environmental impact statement.

Schmit says he favors a robust debate in the legislature on what can and should be done...along with determining the right balance between state government and local control when it comes to sand mining activity.
