A senate bill regulating the frac sand mining industry in Minnesota gets is second committee hearing this week in St. Paul. The bill, sponsored by Democratic Senator Matt Schmit of Red Wing, passed its first committee last week.
On Wednesday, the bill goes before the State and Local Government Committee at the state capital at 3:00 p.m. The measure calls for some statewide uniform regulations on the frac sand mining industry along with a statewide moratorium.
Just like what happened last week, a group of citizen opponents to frac sand mining from southeastern Minnesota will be traveling to St. Paul in busses for the hearing.
