Buffalo County County supervisors have passed four frac sand mining reorts back to department committees for proposed actions and recommendations that might include extending a seven month mining moratorium set to expire on Oct. 31st.
Steven Deller, an economic development specialist with the University of Wisconsin's department of agricultural and applied economics, said Buffalo County needs to be more proactive in economic planning. Deller assisted Buffalo County extension agent Carl Duley in preparing a sand mining report focused on economics.
Departments of public health, zoning and highway also submitted reports, and health director Jen Rombalski recommended a moratorium extension for up to five months. None of the ten county board supervisors at the meeting took a position on extending the current moratorium.
