Fracking Waste

The U-S Coast Guard is seeking public comment on a new rule to allow shipment of fracking waste on the nation's waterways via barge, including the Mississippi River.

According to the website riverkeeper.org, the Coast Guard issued a "policy letter" that would allow shale gas extraction waste to be shipped in bulk via barge on all American waterways.

The website says this would be allowed without an environmental review and that shipping high volumes of frack waste over ecologically sensative waters would result in no significant cumultive impacts on the environment.

Public comments must be submitted by December 6th.
