Gay Marriage

Two local lawmakers from opposite parties appear to agree that the budget should come first before social issues.

Democrats in the House and Senate are moving ahead with their efforts to approve same-sex marriage in Minnesota after committees in both houses approved the bill this week.

But Republican Steve Drazkowski says solving the budget deficit should come first.  Democrat Gene Pelowski seems to agree that social issues do not need to be addressed this session.

Both lawmakers say approval of a gay marriage bill could come down to 12 Democrats in the House, seven of whom, would have to vote against the majority in their own districts which favored defining marriage as between one man and one women during last fall's election on a constitutional amendment.
