Glacier Sands Rezoning

Glacier Sands of Texas, has applied to have some 350 acres of land in Buffalo County rezoned from agricultural to industrial use in the town of Milton.
The company wants to build a railroad loading and storage facility for frac-sand and grain adjacent to Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.

A proposed railroad loading facility would be used to store and transport sand and grain hauled to the site using state highways 35 and 88.

The facility would be large enough to accommodate 250 truckloads of sand daily hauled by an estimated 60 trucks, the company said.

A construction plan calls for a train loading facility capable of loading 130 rail cars weekly initially.

The Buffalo County Zoning Board of Adjustment denied conditional-use zoning permits for a sand drying plant and railway loading station in 2012 submitted by Glacier Sands.

Cochrane-Fountain City School District and petitions signed by more than 600 people opposed the conditional-use permits sought by Glacier Sands.

A meeting on the rezoning application has not been scheduled, according to Tom Taylor, chairman of the land resources/zoning committee......
