A third candidate has emerged in the race for Winona County sheriff forcing a primary election next summer.
Sheriff's Criminal Investigator Kraig Glover says his 26 years in law enforcement, including 14 with the county sheriff's office. qualify him for the position.
Glover worked for the St. Charles Police Department for 12 years before joining the county sheriff's department. Glover has also worked with the Southeastern Minnesota Narcotics Gang Strike Force for eight years. which focuses on drug investigations
He joins fellow sheriff's investigator Rob Averbeck and Deputy Bill Spitzer as announced candidates for the November election. Spitzer announced earlier this month he will not seek re-election as the St.Charles mayor after completing ten years in that position.
Current Sheriff Dave Brand, who has served for 16 years, has not announced if he will seek re-election but is giving it some consideration.
Glover's announcement means a primary election will be needed next August 12th.
Glover says some of the changes he would like to see implemented in the department if he is elected include: increased rural patrols, maintaining a tight budget, holding sheriff's and police training locally, re-establishing night shift supervision, and building a stronger department......
