The Minnesota State Colleges and University Board of Directors approved a recommendation by Chancellor Steven Rosenstone to appoint Gores who will start her new duties on July First.
Gores said she was tremendously honored to be selected for the new role and looks forward to working closely with the faculty, staff, and students of Southwest State to further strong academics as well as meeting the needs of communities in southwestern Minnesota.
Gores has served Winona State University since 2007 as the vice president for student life and development, and as interim president in the summer of 2012.
In making the recommendation, Rosenstone said Gore's track record has been truly impressive. He said under her leadership, Winona State University improved academic quality and has boosted retention and graduation rates to record levels.
Southwest State is the youngest of the four year institutions within MnSCU .
