Houseboat Removed

A houseboat that went through Lock and Dam Seven last May throwing eleven people into the water has been removed from its resting place near the dam.

Winona County Chief Deputy Ron Ganrude said the house boat was floated away from its resting place south of the Dresbach dam on Friday.

The boat is owned by Mississippi River Rental of La Crosse

The Sheriff's Department had informed the company that if the boat was not removed by Monday, September 30th, the County would pay to have it removed and would charge two to five times the actual cost to remove it.

The houseboat went through a roller gate at the lock on May 26th after it lost power.  The accident sent the 11 people aboard into the water.  All were safely rescued. There were no criminal charges filed in connection with the incident......
