Levee Park Committee

Winona Mayor Mark Peterson says he would like the new Levee Park Committee to take another look at improving foot access to to the park.

The committee, chaired by former Police Chief Frank Pomeroy, held its first meeting this week and heard about past efforts to improve and develop the park.

Peterson told a Winona Radio audience the committee needs to examine again the option of a possible relocation of the railroad switching tracks and improving other pedestrian barriers.  And even though earlier cost estimates for track relocation have been over $3 million, Peterson said he does not favor putting that on the taxpayers.

Peterson said he is even open to private businesses in the park but locating a fish and wildlife office would be better.  All options will be investigated by the committee.
