Winona's new Main Street Program is ready to move to the next step following a two day training session hosted by the Winona History Center last week.
Some 35 people, including 12 Winona business leaders, attended the training along with representatives of communities like Wabasha, Stillwater, Red Wing and the Twin Cities.
Winona Chamber President Della Schmidt said a local steering committee and four subcommittees have already been discussing future projects for the downtown area initially, including a landscaping project with volunteers set for Saturday, June First.
Schmidt said the Main Street Program is a partnership with the Chamber and the City of Winona that will be stretched over several years in the hopes of bringing some positive changes to the downtown area.
Schmidt said this month the Chamber will launch a new "Friends of Main Street" support group that will seek members and donations to help finance the lengthy program and keep it going.
